The class is an introduction fun with color mixing, washes and layering. We will experience the different types of brushes and strokes, saturation with two and three color mixing for neutrals.
We will do two still life paintings and one abstract landscape using our new techniques and different papers.
A native Texan, Virginia grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Her father was a painter and author/ illustrator of children’s books. Her artistic background includes studies in music and art in Austin at the University of Texas and Laguna Gloria Art Center. During her numerous years abroad, she worked in various types of media, bronze sculpture at the Instituto de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico; painting in Paris at l L’Alliance Francaise and drawing and painting in Florence at the Scuola di Dante Alighieri. A twenty- five year resident of Maui, her 20 year import business, Odyssey House, allowed her to explore her creative expression and to sell her paintings to clients worldwide. She has participated in many group exhibits in Texas, Hawaii and California. She has studied and been mentored by many professional artists. She enjoys teaching workshops in both watercolor and pastel and has done so on location and at her home studio. She lives in Santa Barbara with her husband Mark, who is a coffee entrepreneur. They enjoy life on the Riviera with 2 Australian Shepherds and three cats. Her most recent works are pastels and oil painting en plein air. “I love the continual challenge and joy of capturing the essence of my world through my art”.
